Q. How common is anemia among HIV patients?

A. In a US study of more than 15,000 patients with HIV, 19% of the patients had a history of anemia when they joined the study. The study also found that anemia is more common in women than in men, and is more common in African Americans compared with people of other races.

Q. What is a CBC test?

A. CBC, or complete blood count, is a lab test that reports the overall health of blood. A number of things are evaluated, such as the number of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Hemoglobin, hematocrit, and additional values are also evaluated.
